How the Video Downloader Works
Paste a video URL into the input field above and our extractor analyzes the page to find available media streams. You can then choose from multiple format and quality options ? typically ranging from 360p to 1080p or higher ? and download the video directly to your device.
Supported platforms include most major video hosting services that provide publicly embeddable content. The tool detects the platform automatically and shows available resolutions and file formats such as MP4, WEBM, and audio-only options.
Privacy-First Downloading
Unlike many online video downloaders, FileShot does not inject ads, install browser extensions, or track which URLs you analyze. The extraction runs on our secure servers, and no log of your downloaded URLs is stored after your session ends.
Tips for best results: ensure the video URL is a direct link to the video page, not a playlist or channel URL. If analysis fails, try copying the URL directly from your browser's address bar rather than a share menu. After downloading, you can use FileShot's file converter to change the format or our compressor to reduce the file size before sharing.
Supported Platforms
The FileShot video downloader supports a wide range of video hosting services and social platforms. Here is a summary of common supported sites:

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this video downloader free to use?
Yes, the FileShot video downloader is completely free. There are no download limits per session, no account required, and no watermarks added to your downloaded files. The tool is part of FileShot's suite of free browser-based file tools.
What video formats and resolutions are supported?
After analyzing a URL, the tool displays all available streams detected from the source. Common formats include MP4 (H.264), WEBM (VP9), and in some cases AV1. Resolutions typically range from 360p to 1080p, with 4K available for platforms that offer it (such as YouTube). Audio-only downloads (MP3 or M4A) are also available when supported.
Do you store or log the videos I download?
No. FileShot does not store the videos on our servers after the download session. The extraction process retrieves the direct stream URL from the source platform and serves it to you. No record of which URLs you analyzed is retained after your session expires. Your downloads go directly to your device.
Why is the analyze step failing for my URL?
Some platforms rotate their signed URLs or require JavaScript rendering to detect video streams. If a URL fails to analyze, try refreshing and re-pasting it. Make sure you are using the direct video page URL (e.g., https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...) rather than a shortened URL, playlist, or channel page. Private, members-only, and age-restricted content typically cannot be extracted.
Is it legal to download videos this way?
Downloading publicly available videos for personal, non-commercial use is generally permitted in many jurisdictions, but the rules vary by country and platform terms of service. Always ensure you have the right to download the content in question. Do not download copyrighted material you do not have permission to save. FileShot provides this tool for legitimate personal use only ? downloading content you own, content released under open licenses, or content where you have explicit permission from the creator.
Can I download an entire playlist at once?
The current version of the tool processes one URL at a time and is optimized for individual video pages. Playlist batch downloads are not supported in the web interface. For batch downloading, you may want to use a dedicated desktop tool. After downloading individual files, you can use the FileShot Archive Builder to package them into a ZIP for easier transfer or storage.
