We read your video length automatically. Trim start time or shorten duration before converting.
Files are processed on our servers and deleted after your GIF is ready.
How Video to GIF Works
Upload a short video clip (MP4, WEBM, MOV, or other browser-supported format). FileShot reads the video duration, lets you set a start time and clip length, then converts the segment into an animated GIF using FFmpeg with palette optimization for better colors.
Lower the FPS or width if the output file is too large. For clips longer than two minutes, the converter uses the first 120 seconds by default — you can trim further in the duration field.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long can my GIF clip be?
Free conversions support clips up to 120 seconds. Shorter clips (under 15 seconds) at 480px width typically produce the best balance of quality and file size.
What FPS and width should I use?
10 FPS at 480px width works well for most memes and reactions. Use 15–20 FPS for smoother motion, or drop to 320px width to shrink file size for chat apps.
Is there a file size limit?
Uploads follow the same limits as our file converter (typically up to 500 MB per file). Very large source videos may take longer to process — try trimming duration first.
Can I convert a YouTube video directly?
Download the video first with our Video Downloader, then upload the saved MP4 here to create a GIF.
Do you store my video?
No long-term storage. Source files and GIF outputs are removed from our servers after processing completes or the download link expires.
