Release Fetch
Paste a GitHub release, SourceForge file, or archive.org item. FileShot saves the asset.
Paste a release URL

Quick check — then you can download
Fetching the release file…
Usually a few seconds
What to paste:
github.com release or file, raw.githubusercontent.com, archive.org, sourceforge.net.
Need to share the file securely afterward? FileShot encrypts uploads in your browser before they leave your device.
GitHub latest or tagged release files, Archive.org item files, SourceForge downloads.
A GitHub repo homepage without a file still fails. Paste a release or a file URL.
FileShot saves the release file. There is no playlist zip of 100 videos.
How Release Fetch works
Paste a GitHub release, a SourceForge file, or an Internet Archive item. FileShot saves the release asset. The ready state shows the file name. Click Download file to keep it.
A GitHub repo homepage without a file is not enough. Open Releases and paste a release or a file URL. Archive.org item pages that list files can retrieve the asset FileShot selected for that item. SourceForge file URLs retrieve the file.
This is not a YouTube downloader. It is not a playlist zip of 100 watch URLs. It is a release asset: an installer, a source tarball, a dataset file, or whatever the project attached to that release.
GitHub latest buttons sometimes point at an HTML release notes page. If Fetch release fails, open the Assets list on the release and copy the file URL for the linux tarball, the Windows zip, or the macOS dmg you actually want. That file URL is the paste this page can save.
Archive.org items can include dozens of derivatives. Paste the file you want when you know the name. A broad item URL may retrieve a default asset that is not the derivative you had in mind. Check the file name on the ready screen before Download file.
Checksums published next to the release are still your job after the file lands. FileShot saving the bytes does not prove the project SHA256 matched. Hash the file on your computer and compare to the project published digest.
SourceForge mirror hop pages can still be HTML. If the saved file is a small HTML document, copy the final mirror file URL after the hop and paste that. Release Fetch saves the body it received, the same as Direct File Downloader.
Nightly builds and unsigned artifacts are still files. FileShot will save them if the URL is public. Your OS may still warn when you open an unsigned nightly. That warning is the operating system, not FileShot blocking the save.
Read the project LICENSE file on GitHub next to the release. Saving the binary does not grant extra rights the license withheld. Redistribution still follows that license.
Git submodules and recursive source zips are still one asset when GitHub attached that zip to the release. Release Fetch will not clone the git repo. It saves the file GitHub (or Archive.org, or SourceForge) already published.
Privacy on release files
FileShot requests the public release or item you pasted. Those files are already public on GitHub, SourceForge, or Archive.org. FileShot does not add a second public index of your pastes.
Only save software and datasets you are allowed to keep. A public release is still under the project’s license. Read that license on the host.
What to paste
Release Fetch saves public release and archive files from:
- GitHub releases — A release page or a file on github.com that points at a release asset.
- GitHub files — raw.githubusercontent.com and github file URLs when they are the asset.
- Internet Archive — archive.org item files FileShot can retrieve.
- SourceForge — sourceforge.net file URLs.
- Tagged versions — Prefer a tagged release over a floating “latest” HTML page when you need a pin.
- Checksums — If the project published SHA256 next to the asset, verify on your disk after Download file. FileShot does not replace that check.
- Not npm install — This page saves a file. It does not run the installer for you.
- Not watch pages — A GitHub-hosted video page that is actually YouTube belongs on Video Downloader.
- Not Mega — Locker files belong on Host Fetch.
- One asset — FileShot saves the release file for that paste, not every file in a 40-asset release unless the URL was that file.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I paste a GitHub repo root?
Only if that URL still resolves to a file. A source tree homepage is not a release asset. Open Releases and paste the asset URL.
Do you run the installer?
No. FileShot saves the file. You run it on your computer if you choose to.
Does this work for private GitHub repos?
No. The asset must be public. Private releases need GitHub authentication FileShot does not enter for you on this page.
What about Archive.org items with many files?
Paste the item or the file URL. FileShot retrieves the asset for that paste. Pick a specific file URL when the item has many files and you only want one.
Is this yt-dlp for GitHub?
No. Release Fetch saves release files. Video Downloader is the watch-page tool.
What is the size cap?
Release files follow FileShot plan caps. Pro raises the cap.
