Saving the direct file…
Usually a few seconds
What to paste:
A direct file address on a CDN or site. Not a playlist. Not a Mega folder index.
Need to share the file securely afterward? FileShot encrypts uploads in your browser before they leave your device.
If the address is a file body, this tool saves it. No quality ladder.
A page that plays a video in a player belongs on Video Downloader.
Save file then Download file writes the bytes with a clean file name.
How Direct File Downloader works
Paste a URL that already is the file: a PDF on a CDN, a zip on a static host, an MP4 file address, a font file, or any other address that returns a file body. FileShot fetches that URL and lets you save it with a clean name. There is no quality ladder and no audio-only switch because the URL is the file.
If the address is a watch page, the server sends HTML for a player. That job belongs on Video Downloader. If the address is a Mega locker page, use Host Fetch. If the address is a gallery HTML page, use Page File Downloader or Gallery Pack.
Direct File Downloader is the shortest path when you already copied a raw file URL from a network panel, an email, or a “direct download” button that points at a file, not at a website shell.
A lot of download buttons on the web still point at an HTML page. If Save file returns a small HTML document, that body is usually a landing page, a wait page, or a login wall. Copy a URL that returns a real file type. Browser developer tools show Content-Type on the real file request.
Referer and cookie locks are common on magazine CDNs and software mirrors. FileShot fetches without your browser profile. If the host only serves the file to a clicked button on their site, Direct File Downloader will not pass that click. Use Host Fetch when the host is on the locker list, or save in the browser and then upload to FileShot if you only need a share link.
If you manage a lot of raw URLs, paste one at a time. Direct File Downloader is one file per job. Page File Downloader is the list-and-zip tool when one HTML page holds many files. Keep those two jobs separate so a CDN MP4 is not mixed into a zip of unrelated PDFs.
Privacy on direct-file saves
FileShot requests the URL you pasted and writes the bytes for your session. It does not wrap the file in a public FileShot listing unless you later upload it to FileShot sharing.
Signed CDN URLs expire. If a URL worked in your browser five minutes ago and fails now, the signature died. Copy a fresh URL. FileShot cannot invent a new signature for a private CDN.
What to paste
This page saves one file from a direct address. Typical pastes:
- Documents — https://example.com/report.pdf and similar PDF or office file URLs.
- Archives — A zip or 7z that the server sends as a file, not as an HTML download page with a captcha.
- Media files — An MP3 or MP4 file URL. A YouTube watch URL is not a file URL.
- Images — A PNG or JPG on a CDN when you already have the image address.
- Software assets — A public binary or installer URL you are allowed to save.
- Headers matter — If the server sends HTML, you will not get a clean file. Use the tool that matches that HTML page.
- Range and size — Large files follow FileShot size caps for your plan. Pro raises the cap.
- Hotlink rules — Some hosts block server-side fetches. If the host requires a browser cookie, Direct File Downloader can fail even when Chrome works.
- Lockers — Mega and PixelDrain belong on Host Fetch so FileShot can use the host API.
- Pages with many files — Use Page File Downloader to list and zip several files from one HTML page.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a direct file URL?
It is an address that returns the file bytes, often ending in .pdf, .zip, .mp3, or .png. The server Content-Type is a file, not a website. If you open it and a player or an HTML page appears, it is not a direct file URL.
Can I paste a YouTube link?
No. YouTube watch URLs are pages. Use Video Downloader.
Why did I get an HTML file instead of a PDF?
The host sent a landing page, a captcha, or a login wall. Direct File Downloader saved the body it received. Open Host Fetch or the original site and get a real file URL.
Are there size limits?
Yes. Free and Pro plans have download size caps. Pro raises the cap. A huge ISO can still fail if it exceeds the plan cap.
Do you store the file for other people?
The retrieve is for your session. Other people do not get a public copy unless you upload the file to FileShot sharing yourself.
The URL worked in Chrome and failed here. Why?
Many CDNs sign URLs for one browser session or check cookies and Referer. FileShot fetches from the server. Copy a fresh public URL, or use Host Fetch when the host has an official API.
