For GitHub Projects

GitHub’s 25 MB limit isn’t your limit.

Drop an encrypted FileShot link into any issue, README, PR, or release note. No size cap. No account required for downloaders. Expires automatically so old links don’t pile up.

What GitHub users share with FileShot

When GitHub’s 25 MB attachment cap or 100 MB LFS file limit gets in the way, FileShot handles the overflow.

Release binaries & installers

GitHub Releases is capped at 2 GB per asset. Ship a private beta build, a large installer, or a platform-specific artifact without hitting the ceiling.

Issue attachments over 25 MB

Attach a core dump, HAR file, or video recording to a bug report. Upload to FileShot, paste the link, and the maintainer downloads with one click — no account needed.

README demo assets

Host a large demo video, dataset sample, or supplementary file and embed the FileShot link in your README. Far simpler than committing a binary to the repo.

CI/CD artifacts

Upload test results, coverage reports, or build artifacts from a pipeline step. Drop the link into a PR comment for easy review without adding to repo history.

Reproducer files & test data

Share a database snapshot, CSV dataset, or binary that reproduces a bug. Password-protect it if the data is sensitive, then send the password separately.

Private pre-release builds

Share a compiled build with beta testers before a public release. Set a download limit so only the expected number of people can grab it, then let it expire automatically.

How to share a large file in a GitHub issue or README

1

Drop your file onto the upload zone above

The browser encrypts the file with AES-256-GCM before it leaves your machine. Nothing unencrypted ever touches the server.

2

Copy the generated link

You get a short URL that contains the decryption key in the fragment (#key=...). The server never sees the key.

3

Paste into any GitHub text field

Paste the link into an issue comment, PR description, README, or release notes. Anyone with the link can download and decrypt in their browser — no account, no install.

4

Link expires automatically

Default expiry is 180 days, but you can set it to anything. Old issue links don’t stick around forever accumulating stale artifacts.

Why it works for open source workflows

No account for recipients

Issue reporters, contributors, and testers never need to sign up for anything. The link is the access. This matters when strangers are filing bug reports.

Encrypted end-to-end

Even sensitive reproduce files — logs with PII, database exports, internal builds — are encrypted in the browser. The server stores ciphertext only.

No repo bloat

Binaries don’t belong in git history. FileShot links keep large files out of version control while still making them accessible to anyone with the link.

Auto-expiring links

Old issue files die automatically. You’re not accumulating permanent storage for bug reports from two years ago.

Download limits

Set max downloads for pre-release builds so only a specific number of testers can grab the file. Once the limit is hit, the link stops working.

Up to 50 GB per file, free

VM images, Docker tarballs, large dataset exports — anything up to 50 GB works on the free tier. Pro and Creator tiers go higher.

The 25 MB cap ends here.

Drop the file. Get the link. Paste it into GitHub. Zero-knowledge encrypted, expires automatically, no account required for anyone who downloads it.
