Metadata Scrubber
Metadata scrubbing is now integrated directly into our file tools. Strip EXIF, GPS, author info, and timestamps from any file during processing — no separate tool needed.
The standalone scrubber has been retired. Every FileShot tool now includes a Remove metadata toggle that strips EXIF, GPS, author info, and timestamps automatically during processing.
About Metadata Scrubbing
Metadata scrubbing removes hidden information embedded in your files before you share them. Every photo you take includes EXIF data — GPS coordinates, camera model, date, time, and sometimes even the software used to edit it. PDFs and office documents can contain author names, revision history, and tracked changes. If you share these files without scrubbing, anyone who receives them can read that data.
FileShot's metadata removal is now integrated directly into our file converter, PDF editor, and compressor tools. When you process a file through any of these tools, simply enable the "Remove metadata" option to strip EXIF, GPS, author info, and timestamps from your output automatically. There is no separate step required and no data is stored on our servers after processing.
Common metadata types removed include EXIF image data, GPS geolocation tags, document author and revision history, creation and modification timestamps, software identifiers, and embedded thumbnails. This is especially important for photographers, journalists, and anyone sharing sensitive documents where location tracking or identity exposure could be a risk.
Why Metadata Scrubbing Matters
Every digital file you create carries hidden metadata — timestamps, device information, GPS coordinates, author names, and editing history. When you share photos, documents, or videos online, this invisible data travels with them. Our metadata scrubber strips all embedded metadata from your files before you share them, protecting your privacy and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
Supported Metadata Types
FileShot's scrubber handles EXIF data from cameras, XMP data from editing software, IPTC data from publishing workflows, and document properties from office files. Whether you need to remove GPS coordinates from vacation photos, clear author information from business documents, or strip editing history from creative files, our tool processes everything in seconds — entirely within your browser, with zero server uploads.
Enterprise-Grade Privacy
Organizations in healthcare, legal, finance, and government sectors rely on metadata scrubbing to prevent accidental data leaks. A single unscrubbed document can expose internal revision notes, attorney names, organizational network paths, or confidential timestamps. FileShot provides the same level of metadata removal used by enterprise security teams, available to everyone for free.
