SaveFrom Not Working in the US? Here's Why
FileShot Team · 2026-10-04
The notice is not a bug, and clearing your cache will not fix it.
If you open SaveFrom.net from the United States, you get a letter instead of a download box. It says SaveFrom is terminating its services in the United States as of April 28, 2020. The notice was still live when we checked in October 2026. This page explains what the notice means, what does not fix it, and how to download the same videos another way in under a minute.
What you see
Instead of the familiar paste box, US visitors get a short statement from SaveFrom saying it has ended service in the United States. There is no error code and no retry button. The page loads correctly; it simply will not process a download for a US connection.
Why it happens
SaveFrom made a business decision to stop serving US visitors. It is not an outage, a browser problem or a block on your network. Other people in the US see the same notice, on every browser and every device.
What does not fix it
- Clearing your cache or cookies. The notice is based on where your connection comes from, not on anything stored in your browser.
- Switching browsers or devices. Chrome, Safari, Firefox, phone or laptop all get the same notice from a US connection.
- Waiting. The notice has been in place since 2020. It is not a temporary maintenance page.
A VPN changes the country your connection comes from, but that means routing your downloads through another company just to reach one tool. A downloader that serves your country directly is one step instead of two.
What to look for in a replacement
- It serves your country. Open it from where you are and confirm you get a paste box, not a notice.
- It covers the sites you use. SaveFrom users typically paste YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and X links. A replacement that only handles one of them sends you back to searching.
- It merges sound into HD. YouTube and Facebook store HD video and audio separately. A tool that does not merge them gives you silent HD files.
- It needs no install. A one-off download never requires an app, extension or “codec.”
- It publishes security results. FileShot is rated A+ by Mozilla Observatory, SecurityHeaders and SSL Labs, and 0 of 95 VirusTotal engines flag it.
What to use instead
FileShot works in the US and everywhere else, with no account and no watermark. Paste the same link you would have given SaveFrom into FileShot’s downloader. It covers 1,000+ sites, against about 40 for SaveFrom in a 2026 independent test. It also reads each link with five engines in turn, so a link that defeats one method gets four more tries.
| SaveFrom (from the US) | FileShot | |
|---|---|---|
| Works for US visitors | No, service-ended notice since 2020 | Yes |
| Sites covered | About 40 (2026 test) | 1,000+ |
| Extraction methods | One | Five engines in turn |
| Sound merged into HD files | - | Yes, “Video + Audio” |
| Highest quality | - | Up to 4K (Pro) |
| Encrypted share link after download | No | Yes, with optional expiry |
Steps
- Copy the video link from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook, Reddit or another site.
- Paste it at fileshot.io/tools/download-video-from-url.
- Pick a quality, up to 4K, and press Download.
Where to find the link on each app
- YouTube: tap Share under the video, then Copy link.
- TikTok: tap the Share arrow on the right, then Copy link.
- Instagram: tap the paper-plane icon on the Reel or post, then Copy link.
- Facebook: tap Share under the video, then Copy link.
- X: tap the share icon on the post, then Copy link.
- Reddit: tap Share on the post, then Copy link.
On a computer, you can also copy the address straight from the browser bar while the video page is open.
If a download still fails
Most remaining failures come from the video itself: it is private, deleted, or protected with DRM. Video Downloader Not Working? 6 Causes and Fixes walks through how to tell which case you are in. If the file arrives without sound, the platform stored audio separately; FileShot merges it automatically, and this guide explains why it happens elsewhere.
Bonus
After the download, FileShot can turn the file into an encrypted share link with optional expiry, so you can send it without uploading it anywhere else.
Frequently asked questions

No. SaveFrom is online, but it does not serve visitors connecting from the United States and shows them a notice instead.
Is there a SaveFrom alternative that works in the US?
Yes. FileShot works in the US with no account, covers 1,000+ sites and merges sound into HD files.
Do I need to install anything?
No. FileShot runs in your browser on a phone or computer. An optional extension exists for Chrome, Firefox and Edge.
Can I save just the audio from a YouTube video?
