Secure File Sharing
Zero-Knowledge Encrypted

Share files with military-grade AES-256-GCM encryption. Your files are encrypted in your browser before they ever reach our servers. No one can read your data except the recipient. Not us. Not anyone.

AES-256-GCM Zero Knowledge No Account Required HIPAA Available

How Zero-Knowledge Encryption Works

See exactly what happens when you share a file with FileShot. No jargon. No hand-waving. Just transparent security.

Every file goes through this process automatically:

Your Browser
AES-256 Encrypt
Upload Ciphertext
Our Server
Share Link + Key
Recipient Decrypts

The encryption key is generated in your browser and is only ever transmitted to the recipient through the share link. Our servers see encrypted data only. They cannot decrypt anything.

Security Features

Every feature built for users who care about privacy and data protection.

True Zero-Knowledge

We cannot access your files. Ever. The encryption happens in your browser using JavaScript Web Crypto API. The key never leaves your device except embedded in the share link you control.

Password Protection

Add an optional password to any file share. Even if someone gets the link, they cannot download without the password. This adds a second layer of defense on top of encryption.

Custom Expiry

Set exactly how long files remain available. From 1 hour to 1 year. Free users get up to 90 days. Pro users get 1 year. Auto-delete reduces exposure window and keeps your data footprint minimal.

Download Tracking

See when and where your files are downloaded. Get notified every time someone accesses your share. Pro and higher tiers include full analytics dashboards for all your shares.

Access Control

Revoke access instantly. Generate multiple links for the same file with different permissions. Limit downloads per link. Create burner links that self-destruct after one use.

HIPAA Compliance

Professional tier includes HIPAA compliance with a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA). Audit logging, access controls, and dedicated support for healthcare providers and legal firms.

Who Uses Secure File Sharing?

Professionals across industries trust FileShot for sharing sensitive files.

Healthcare Providers

Share patient records, DICOM images, and lab results securely. HIPAA-compliant Professional tier with BAA available. End-to-end encryption protects patient privacy while maintaining data accessibility.

Legal Professionals

Send confidential contracts, discovery documents, and case files to clients and co-counsel. Password protection and access logs create an audit trail. Files never sit unencrypted on third-party servers.

Financial Services

Share statements, tax documents, and sensitive client data. Encryption in transit and at rest. No third-party cloud providers. Your data stays on infrastructure we physically control.

Media & Creative

Send unreleased footage, raw photography, and design files to clients and collaborators. Prevent leaks with password-protected links and expiry dates. Watermark support for image previews.

Researchers & Academia

Share datasets, research findings, and unpublished papers with collaborators worldwide. Zero-knowledge encryption ensures institutional data policies are met without complex IT setup.

Enterprise Teams

Professional tier with SSO readiness, dedicated account management, and custom security policies. Control how your organization shares files with granular permissions and audit trails.

Security vs. Other Services

Not all file sharing is equally secure. See how FileShot compares.

WeTransfer

Files are uploaded unencrypted. WeTransfer can read everything you send. They store files on AWS S3 and retain access. No password protection on free tier. Full comparison →

Google Drive

Files encrypted at rest but Google holds the keys. Their scanning algorithms read your content for advertising and content filtering. Data stored across jurisdictions. Requires account for both sender and receiver.

Dropbox

Files encrypted at rest but Dropbox controls the keys. Employees can theoretically access your data. Shares require accounts for recipients. Metadata is not encrypted.

FileShot

True zero-knowledge: only you and your recipient have the encryption key. We see ciphertext only. No accounts needed. No scanning. No data mining. No third-party cloud. Private infrastructure. This is the difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about secure file sharing with FileShot.

What makes FileShot more secure than WeTransfer?

FileShot encrypts files in your browser before upload using AES-256-GCM. WeTransfer does not. This means WeTransfer stores your files in plain text and can read them. FileShot's servers only ever store ciphertext. Even if our servers were compromised, your files would be unreadable without the decryption key embedded in your share link.

What is zero-knowledge encryption?

Zero-knowledge encryption means the service provider (FileShot) has no knowledge of your encryption keys and cannot decrypt your files. The encryption happens entirely in your browser. We store the encrypted file but cannot access its contents. Only someone with your exact share link can decrypt and view the file.

Can I password protect my shared files?

Yes. Every file share can have an optional password. The recipient needs both the share link AND the password to download. This adds a second layer of security beyond encryption alone.

Is FileShot HIPAA compliant?

Yes, our Professional tier includes HIPAA compliance with a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA). This includes audit logging, access controls, dedicated support, and infrastructure that meets HIPAA technical safeguards. Contact us for BAA setup.

Do you keep copies of my files?

No. We store exactly one encrypted copy per file. When you delete a file or it expires, it is permanently removed from our servers. We do not create backups or copies. Your data belongs to you alone.

Where are your servers located?

We operate our own private infrastructure in privacy-focused data centers. We do not use AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure. Your data never passes through third-party cloud providers. This reduces attack surface and ensures data sovereignty.

Can you recover a lost password?

No. We cannot recover passwords or reset them because we do not store them. If you forget the password to a shared file, you will need to re-share it with a new password. This is by design — it is what makes our system truly zero-knowledge.
